    Configuring Eclipse for Maven plugins

The Maven Integration requires that Eclipse be running in a JDK, because a number of Maven core plugins are using jars from the JDK.

Please make sure the -vm option in Eclipse.ini is pointing to a JDK and verify that installed JRE's are using JDK installs.

11/05/11 18:18:39 BST: Eclipse is running in a JRE, but a JDK is required
Some Maven plugins may not work when importing projects or updating source folders.

    Change eclipse.ini from

    -startup
    plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.1.1.R36x_v20101122_1400.jar
    --launcher.library
    plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.win32.win32.x86_64_1.1.2.R36x_v20101222
    -product
    org.eclipse.epp.package.jee.product
    --launcher.defaultAction
    openFile
    --launcher.XXMaxPermSize
    256M
    -showsplash
    org.eclipse.platform
    --launcher.XXMaxPermSize
    256m
    --launcher.defaultAction
    openFile
    -vmargs
    -Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion=1.5
    -Xms40m
    -Xmx512m

    To

    -startup
    plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.1.1.R36x_v20101122_1400.jar
    --launcher.library
    plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.win32.win32.x86_64_1.1.2.R36x_v20101222
    -product
    org.eclipse.epp.package.jee.product
    --launcher.defaultAction
    openFile
    --launcher.XXMaxPermSize
    256M
    -showsplash
    org.eclipse.platform
    --launcher.XXMaxPermSize
    256m
    --launcher.defaultAction
    openFile
    -vm
    C:\Java\jdk1.6.0_23_64\bin\javaw.exe
    -vmargs
    -Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion=1.5
    -Xms40m
    -Xmx512m

Notice the new line, it is important

    Also:

We need to change the installed JRE's in Eclipse preferences

Click Add to create a new JRE

Locate the root folder of you downloaded JDK: Note in this case I am using a 64bit JDK as I have a 64bit Eclipse

Remember to set the new installed JRE
